Jacqueline Wright

Jacqueline Wright, aka JAX, CalArts BFA in theater, is a writer & performer versed in all mediums of performative expression. They work as an independent creator and in collaboration with others in improvised, devised and scripted work. Their plays Ornithic Ones premieres at Theater of Note, July 2026, & Coffee Pot Tree premieres in Frank’s at The Echo Theater in August. Emergency Snack (both a scathing review and love letter to LA theater), currently seeking a premier, was developed in EST LA’s Ignite Project playwright lab, directed by Margaret Starbuck, who also contributed as dramaturg. Slum Goddess (sparked by Suzanne Fletcher, the fragility, grace and authentic beauty in the portraits taken by Nan Goldin) produced by Animal Show, in a Padua inspired site specific space, 2024. Driving Wild, a re-imaging and deconstruction of The Portrait of Dorian Grey, directed by Bart Delerenzo, premiered at Theater of NOTE, Critic’s pick LA WEEKLY. Have You Seen Alice? directed by Adrian A Cruz premiered at Theater of NOTE, Critic’s Pick LA WEEKLY, nominated for LA Weekly performance and design awards. Spider Bites, directed by Dan Bonnell, premiered at Theater of Note, Critics Pick LA Times. Eat Me, directed by Chris Fields, produced by Joe Foster, nominated for LA Weekly and Ovation awards, Love Water, directed by Dan Bonnell, produced by EST LA with Open Fist, Critic’s Choice LA WEEKLY, Ovation nominations, Jerome Fellowship Finalist and Sherwood Finalist. As a performer, Jax  originated the roles of Molly and Betty in Playwright’s Horizons’ production of The Patron Saint of Sea Monsters by Marlane Meyer, directed by Lisa Peterson, Ann Savage in The Golden Fleece, written and directed by Michael Sargent at Zombie Joes Underground theater, a second production with Jax is scheduled for the 2027 Edinburgh Festival. JonBenét Ramsey in House of Gold, dir by Gates McFadden, The Dope Elf, by Asher Hartman, in collaboration with TBA festival, hosted by Yale Union Museum. The Air Planner in Daniel Sullivan’s Xs Tons Millions directed by Adrian A Cruz and Roxanne Rogers, Mother of Rainer Werner Fassbinder in Caye Castagnetto’s Rhino, Put Your Hand Inside the Puppet Head, produced by The New Theater. Performed with Elliot Reed, stage design, movement and concept by Elliot Reed Laboratories, commissioned by the Pam Museum, 2025. Francine in Sorry by Mellissa R. Randel, directed by Larry Biederman, produced by Sitti Company, 2025. Portrayed Birdie Jo Hoaks, Charlotte Corday, and Jane Hudson, communicating archetypes and gender expression through embodied movement and gesture, in Five Economies (big hunt/little hunt) film by Catherine Sullivan, held in the permanent collection of MOCA Los Angeles. Multiple Selves in It Had All Happened Through This, This…? a film by Asher Hartman, produced by The Lab. The Chupacabra worshiping villain in the b-movie homage Cursed In Baja directed by Jeff Daniel Phillips, Woman/Creature in the experimental film Excursions, directed by Dan Martinico, premiered at Slamdance, and as Tommy in the feature film adaptation of Jacqueline’s critically acclaimed play Eat Me directed by Adrian A Cruz (Sundance lab finalist, Best Film: Cult Films & Peephole Festival) available on Fandor.  JacquelineWrightArts.com
